The U.S. economy continues to expand at a solid pace. Labor market overall is in good health. Inflation had declined significantly but remains above the Fed’s 2.0% inflation target. Interest rates have started to come down with the Fed taking actions to normalize the monetary policy. Republicans have swept the elections and the upcoming Trump administration is projecting a favorable business environment, but policy uncertainty remains. Nevertheless, numerous risks to economic and business activity are present. Geopolitical risks continue to threaten global growth prospects. Residential and commercial real estate markets continue to struggle and are unbalanced. The U.S. economy’s continued success will depend on a variety of factors such as fiscal policy, interest rates, tariffs, immigration, deregulation, deglobalization and demographics. This session will explore some of those topics. About our Speaker: Dr. Veeramani is a Financial Services executive with a demonstrated history of successfully leading high visibility initiatives at global and midsize financial institutions. He is currently Chief Economist with Wintrust Financial Corporation. He leads the bank’s Liquidity, Market & Interest Rate Risk Oversight, Economic Analysis & Forecasting, and Risk Strategy & Analytics functions. He is a published author and frequent speaker on topics related to enterprise risk management, risk & financial analytics, creation of data-driven business intelligence, and economic trends. Prior to joining Wintrust, he held various risk management roles of increasing responsibility at Morgan Stanley, Discover Financial Services and HSBC. Venkat is active in the community and financial services industry. He is currently a member of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He served on the Fintech Advisory Board of the Center for Financial Professionals for five years. He earned his Ph.D. in Agri. Economics at the University of Kentucky. Additionally, he has completed the Advanced Risk Management Program from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
