Hi - Excellent experience. I have moved across states about 14 times...so, I anticipated a move within Chicago would be a piece of cake...and it was. Mid-West has great customer service from the sales representative to the crew. We were asked by crew members and the dedicated customer care representative whether we were satisfied with the way the move was going. The three-man crew worked hard...wrapping my furniture, assembling my bed, etc. They never stopped! The estimate was well below the actual cost..but, they were charging by the hour...and there was never idle time - so, I think the cost is appropriate.
Now I sit with over 150 boxes...and to this point, no damage. So all is good so far. They really seemed to care about our belongings!
Thank you Mid-West moving and storage.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

So. We've used this company three times in just over a year. We moved from Houston to Chicago in June of 2021 when MW M & S unloaded our truck for us on this end. They did a great job, although they weren't as careful about covering our brand new hardwood floor as I would have liked & we did end up with some meaningful scratches in the bedroom. Not the end of the world, but disappointing. It also ha become tiresome any time one hires a team to complete a job to only be able to communicate with one person in the group so they spend most of their time being a middle man on communication rather than actually working. This goes way beyond MW M & S, it is part of the world we live in now, but it is tiresome.
They were on time, they were quick about the work, & they didn't break anything, fair enough.
This summer we needed to partially move out to complete the final phases of a renovation on the condo & so we brought in MW M & S to not only load out, but to store our items, & to move them back in again. The load out went well. Everything got itemized on a ledger for the storage portion to make sure they brought everything back, they were quite thorough about wrapping everything in blankets & shrink wrap, & again they were on time & quick about the work.
The team flat out asked for a cash tip, which I found extremely odd, especially when we had just gifted the team members half a dozen pieces of very nice furniture we were going to donate to Good Will which they asked if they could simply keep. Again, not the end of the world, but odd.
Unfortunately, the load back in was where everything went completely sideways. They called at 8:30am to tell me they were just starting to load the truck & it would take them an hour to arrive, given traffic by that time of day -- our elevator window is 9am-12pm with no flexibility. The office staff apparently don't arrive at work until 9am because I couldn't get anyone on the phone to make clear to them how inflexible the situation was & if the team didn't want to end up humping my stuff up 20 flights of stairs, they needed to make sure they got here as fast as they could because my priority once they were in the unit was to not scratch the (completely refinished, again) floors, not be done quickly. This time, despite my repeated comments about the floor, they only put out a cursory number of floor mats to walk on which didn't even extend into all the rooms. I asked them to only have one person in the unit who removed their shoes, this also didn't happen. When all was said & done they returned three boxes which we discovered were not on the ledger, so we have no idea now if there were other boxes not on the ledger they didn't end up returning. I was then pressured to sign the paperwork indicating everything was "OK" before everything was unwrapped, again pressured for a cash tip, again only being able to communicate through one person to the whole team, which I'm sure is why many of the requests & instructions I gave were ignored.
Then my wife & I go to actually set up our belongings where we want them & I can't figure out why my desk won't sit level on the floor & wobbles. Flip it over & find one of the legs has been cracked at the bolts, & a shoddy attempt at securing it with tape has been made, with this corner deliberately put in the back when the desk was put in place, so I would not notice the damage while the team were still here.
I contact the rep we've been working with, provide photos, indicate the original value of the item (four years ago), indicate the new value to replace it is actually 30% higher than it was then, point out it was an unfinished piece of furniture I also put several hours into making usable with my own effort, & then asked for no more than the original cost of the item (meaning I'm eating my lost time & the inflation to replace it).
They offered us half. It doesn't even off-set the tip I gave the team which I certainly would not have given them had I known the item was broken.
So, hopefully the extra $50 is worth it to MW M & S.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Yabsaa X.Chicago, IL58207Aug 2, 2022

Horrible experience. Several of my items were damaged in the process and there was no resolution. Additionally, the technicians wouldn't leave our new home until we gave what they felt was a proper cash tip. We were overcharged for hours as they sat in our driveway when work was completed just to increase their time. Don't hire this company.

I genuinely hate writing bad reviews but want to save someone else the headache. I would highly recommend trying another moving company for your move. We used Midwest Movers and all together it was a terrible experience. We moved from a 2/2 apartment to another 2/2 apartment and both had elevators. The move took 10 hours. The movers did hundreds of dollars of damage to our furniture and spent an hour and a half trying to get our couch in our apartment to no avail and destroyed it in the process. The final amount they gave us for the move was $400 more than it should have been (incorrect math). The movers were completely unprofessional and we're incredibly slow. There are tons of other movers out there so I definitely recommend looking elsewhere.
UPDATE: the following day my boyfriend and I were able to get our couch in our apartment in less than 20 minutes. Our sales rep charged us for the entire move time before any documentation was signed ($800 more than quoted) All together a terrible experience and horrible customer service. I do not recommend using this company
REPLY: The response is a great example of the communication you will get from this company. We did tell our sales rep that our couch had hundreds of dollars of damage and apparently he did not submit that as a claim. As we got settled we noticed even more damage to our furniture beyond our couch. I do not plan on reaching out as I know your team won't do anything or compensate us for the damages and it is not worth the headache for me.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

We are genuinely sorry that you felt your move was a terrible experience. We appreciate the fact that you were a returning customer and had a great experience the first time around. In the conversation had between your sales rep and your boyfriend, the contracted customer, he did not state any damage and opted no claims. Your billing was accidentally charged before approval and within 2 hours the charge was voided and re-ran with the new corrected and agreed upon charge of which a good will compensation was given due to your experience of the move. If you have any further issue both your sales rep or myself (Kari-Ann Ryan) are readily available to talk it through.

We used Mid-West for a cross town move about a year ago. I just came across some old paperwork of theirs and felt I had to share. My husband had used them years ago with good results. The group of young men who were our movers were very hard working, however, they were SO improperly trained or perhaps did not follow their training. They stacked canvas paintings on top of each other, with nothing between to protect. They piled things with sharp ends on top of leather couches. They wrapped our leather couches with plastic for protection but did not wrap the giant leather seat or backing cushions. The rolled those same unprotected leather cushions in giant bins filled with all kinds of stuff pressing and scratching into them. They left packing tape rolls lying around and the tape stuck to and damaged the hardwood floors. One guy was tearing off the tape with his teeth. I said that is bad for your teeth (not to mention not so hygienic) and he replied that it was faster than scissors. Yes, I have torn off tape with my teeth, at home, alone and not while being paid as a professional.

My family and I had a wonderful experience today with our movers from Mid-West Moving and Storage. We were in the middle of a local move with some extremely heavy pieces of furniture and the 3 member crew that we had from Mid-West were hard working, polite and careful with our items. I would highly recommend this team!

I normally do not leave reviews for services, good or bad. However my move with Mid-West Moving was so unprofessional I wanted to warn other consumers.
In all of my moves in the last ten years I have never seen a crew as unprofessional and under prepared. The team arrived late with no communication. Drove into the pickup location building- twice!-, damaging the brick facade. They did not bring moving dollies, only two hand trucks. Did not bring sufficient furniture pads. Several of my larger pieces of furniture were damaged becuase they were not padded or wrapped at all. Each time I requested better handling or wrapping of furniture items, I was ignored.
We were moving a small 2/2 condo and I had provided a detailed inventory. The truck they brought did not match the bill of lading and was too small. They ran out of room and made two trips, dumping furniture items in the garage on the first delivery. Even with two trips, furniture items were forgotten at pick up location. Items disassembled by crew were not reassembled and other items were left in the garage instead of brought into the house.
The main office sent a second crew of movers a week later to finish the job. But even getting that response was a headache of trying to track down the right department. It's been a week and half since my move date and I am still waiting on a response for the damaged items claim. Damaged items, even at depreciated liability coverage, totaled more than twice the cost of the move.
If the office had resolved my issues in a timely manner I think I'd up my star rating. Their communication has been nothing but confrontational when I am able to get someone on the phone from the claims department.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kelly P.Gatlinburg, TN013Sep 10, 2021
DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE! Midwest movers recently moved us from Chicago to St Louis. The pickup went somewhat smoothly, after damaging our floors, however the delivery was the worst. *They were late because the truck broke down, which led them to leave some of our belongings in the first truck. Our belongings were never recovered and are lost. *The truck that our belongings were transferred to for the trip to St Louis was poorly packed. Items just thrown in, not blanket wrapped, able to move during transport. *Many belongings were damaged, scratched, an antique wood chair had the wood split down the middle. *Watching these movers, it was obvious the had no reason to take care of a clients belongings... "make a claim" was the constant refrain. *The team leader was rude and literally walked away from me when I was asking questions. *Management will not take any responsibility for the problems during our move. Quote: "As a service provider, these thing sometimes happen"
I work with movers in my day job, and I am the face of customer service for my company. These people are a joke and do not care about their customers. The pitiful "good faith" offer didn't even come close to giving us the ability to replace our items. My complaints were not solely about money, they were about taking responsibility for the horrendous service.
Again, DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE! You will save yourself a great amount of heartache and frustration by avoiding them. See photos....Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Audrey L.Silver Spring, MD02May 12, 2022
Stay away from this company if you're planning a move out of state. The initial contact was pleasant enough. Packing was done well and on time. However the actual move-in experience was horrible. There was never a set date that the company was able to guarantee. The date kept changing so much that the actual move didn't happen until 3 weeks later. Mid-West never took responsibility. It was a horrible experience
